How to choose the first workflow for an AI agent

Practical criteria for finding volume, risk, human validation and evidence before the first implementation.

Start where the work already happens

The best first workflow is not the flashiest one. It is the one that already has volume, a clear owner and enough repetition to measure before and after.

In Brazilian companies, this often appears in WhatsApp support, commercial triage, voice reception, document intake or follow-up on internal exceptions.

Look for an operational boundary, not only automation

A good agent workflow has a clear boundary: what AI can resolve, when it needs confirmation and when the case must go to a person.

If that boundary does not exist yet, the first job is to design policy, SLA, risk and human ownership before putting the agent into production.

Require evidence from day one

Each execution needs to leave a record: input, response, human validation reason, outcome, cost, quality score and next action.

Without evidence, the project becomes opinion. With evidence, the team can safely correct, expand or stop the workflow.
